In the United States, which is a union, technically the states vote for President. Every state allows their citizens to vote for President, and the results of each state's election determine how the state will vote. The system that manages this is the Electoral College, and each state selects which Electors will represent the state. They meet on the first Tuesday after the second Wednesday in December. In 2024, that date would be December 17.
